SUNY Farmingdale University Police Department Deploys IMPACT Campus Law Enforcement Software

FARMINGDALE NY -- SUNY Farmingdale has engaged IMPACT®, a New York-based public safety technology and intelligence provider, to supply IMPACT Campus, a collection of records management and computer aided dispatch software, for the SUNY Farmingdale University Police Department.  The system will aid in accessing and managing all data and information related to campus security, in addition to streamlining department resource dispatching.

“Between students and faculty, SUNY Farmingdale has almost 7,000 people on a 380-acre campus.  Protecting a population that size requires many of the information management tools required when policing an entire town,” says Dennis Labriola, president and CEO of IMPACT. “The tools we are providing push information into the hands of officers and administrators to help provide for a safer campus environment.”

IMPACT Campus will ease many of the burdens that a campus police force has in terms of recording and reporting campus activities to adjoining local jurisdictions. Additionally, it will aid in the access and analysis of information to quickly detect patterns or conduct investigations and will generate the mandated Federal CLERY Report.

“While campus police departments have the same information management issues seen by municipal departments, they also experience unique challenges related to policing a relatively closed community,” say Labriola. “IMPACT Campus and its technologies are very similar to those used by municipal police and sheriff’s offices, although they address requirements unique to the university and college community. We are able to provide a system whose core has been well used and tested in a wide variety of scenarios, yet, the individual IMPACT system that SUNY Farmingdale is receiving has been shaped specifically for Campus Law Enforcement.”

IMPACT is the premier vendor in providing Information Sharing technologies between law enforcement departments and agencies in the New York region. Campus police who are using IMPACT can also opt to link their system to other local agencies, including other SUNY/CUNY locations, to a wider, general university data sharing community, or to the general law enforcement community. Should a non-student be found on campus, officers would be able to find out not only if they belong on campus, but if they’ve had interactions with the local municipal authorities that warrant further investigation.

“No matter if you’re patrolling a port, a border, or a science department building, the more information an officer has, and the easier they can access it,” says Labriola, “the safer everyone will be.”
