Farmingdale – Last fall, Erick Ore Bustamante decided to take an internship with IMPACT, a leading public safety software and intelligence firm, as part of his undergraduate degree program in computer information studies at Dowling College. What was at first a 100-hour program, has now turned into a part-time position for Bustamante with IMPACT as he finishes his bachelor’s degree.
“We’ve always made sure IMPACT stays as involved with the local community as possible. Programs like our internships with Dowling College have mutual benefits,” says Dennis Labriola, president and CEO of IMPACT. “The hallmark of a company like ours is having technology that stays at the cutting edge, providing agencies we work with both the kinds of tools they need, and the ones they hadn’t thought to ask for. Interns help IMPACT incorporate the newest concepts coming out of academia, and provide a fresh creative look at our products.”
Continuing with the internship program in 2009, IMPACT will welcome Siddarth Kapoor, an MBA candidate from Dowling, as its spring intern.
“We’re always thankful for local companies such as IMPACT that offer students the opportunity to put the concepts they are learning in the classroom into action in a real world environment,” says Brian Jeran, director of career services at Dowling College.
IMPACT plans to continue offering at least one internship per semester in either its business or operations units.
